Nature's Perfection!
IDENTIFICATION OF THE HONEY BEEE
Please review the pictures to the left to determine if indeed you are seeing honeybees. Many people confuse the honey bee with species of wasp. The Honey Bee gets a "BAD RAP" from other insects such as the yellow jacket and hornet.
STINGS FOR DUMMIES!
Due to their anatomy, Honey bees sting once then die. They do not sting you multiple times as do the yellow jacket or hornet a If you are stung by a bee, remove the stinger by immediately scraping it off of your body, do not grab and pull... what escapes the naked eye is a tiny sack of venom at the top of the stinger... if you grab and pull on the stinger you will inject yourself with all of the venom in that sack!
AN OLD BEEKEEPERS SAYING
"A swarm in May is worth a load of hay
A swarm in June is worth a silver spoon
A swarm in July ain't worth a fly"!
SWARMING IS A NATURAL ACTIVITY OF HONEY BEES
It is the way they reproduce colonies. They swarm when there is a scarcity of food supply or when overcrowded. The usual time for swarming is from May through September.
A swarm of bees is relatively harmless, as they have no home to protect. If you have a swarm of bees on your property or suspect a swarm to be within the walls or floors of your home, we are here to help. Beeman Rob will re-hive the swarm with other beekeepers for ongoing care.
